Introduction

National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) Programs aims at creating at least a digitally literate and empowered person per house hold in India.

NDLM offers basic training to individuals on how to use mobile phones, tablets and computers. The individuals are also trained on how to use computer programs. Other things like using the internet to make bill payments, book train & bus tickets, communication using Twitter, Facebook, Skype and Aadhaar online services are taught.

Program Description

National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) Scheme has been formulated to impart IT training to 6 crore people, including Anganwadi and ASHA workers and authorized ration dealers in all the States/UTs across the country so that the non-digitally literate citizens are trained to become digitally literate so as to enable them to actively and effectively participate in the democratic and developmental process and also enhance their livelihood.

As a part of the digital literacy initiative, NASSCOM Foundation with support from Colruyt has set up 1 NDLM center in Yousufguda, Hyderabad. The aim is to strengthen the Government’s mission which aims to empower at least one person per household with digital literacy skills by 2020.

The NDLM Centers provide training on digital literacy to the candidates so that the individual is able to operate computer/laptops for accessing, creating, managing and sharing information. The aim of the training is to enable candidates to browse internet in an effective and responsible manner and can leverage technology for the betterment of their life.

Success Stories

I stay at Rajeev Gandhi nagar. I studied up to 10th standard. We are three members in my family. I’ve a small kid. My husband is a daily wager. He works very hard. I always wanted to contribute to my family income for my child career growth. I came to know about digital literacy course through a pamphlet. It’s a good opportunity for me because I can’t enroll for expensive technical courses. Management of the institution cooperative and very supportive. At the center, I learnt about operating desktop and tablet phone. Installation of applications in tablet, video calling, sending and receiving mails, sharing data from one to others etc. All these skills will be much useful for my career growth. In addition to the technical knowledge I learnt spoken English as well. I’m looking for a job to support my family financially. I believe that this training helps me a lot in my career advancement.
