Context

West Singhbhum, also called Chaibasa colloquially, is a District in the Southern Part of Jharkhand State. With the onset of COVID-19 Pandemic, the district has notified 18 Government Hospitals for management and treatment of the infection, 15 of which are Community Healthcare centres. With a total bed capacity of 450 beds earmarked for COVID Care, only 200 beds have oxygen support and only 18 beds are ICU supported.

Proposed Arrangements by the District Administration, West Singhbhum:

To provide universal healthcare to all its citizens and prepare for the next wave of the infection, District Administration intends to increase the oxygen beds from 200 to 650 and ICU beds from 18 to 93.

With incoming predictions that the next wave of might affect infants and newborns, the administration intends install 75 Pediatric/Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the District.

The Administration plans to incorporate an additional 5 Adult ICU Beds, 5 Pediatric ICU Beds and a total of fully functional 30 beds with Oxygen Support on a priority basis.

Support from Nirmaan:

Nirmaan intends to support the District Administration’s initiative to develop the Community Health Care Centre at Barajamda Block into a full-fledged COVID Care Centre with a dedicated 10 bedded ICU Set-up and a provision of 30 Oxygen beds.

Why Barajamda CHC?

Barajamda Town is marked by hilly terrain and has very little access to quality medical care provided in the District Hospital. It takes more than 70 mins for an ambulance to traverse between Barajamda to Chaibasa, affecting timely treatment in emergencies.

The CHC currently has 25 beds allocated for COVID (8 Oxygen Supported) and has no ICU beds with ventilator support. The CHC has 50 beds with no functional ICU.

List of Activities to be undertaken with support of NIRMAAN

Nirmaan is raising funds for installation of medical equipment for adult, neo-natal, and pediatric ICU in addition to setting up 20 Oxygen supported beds with critical care support.

Rationale behind the list of all equipment required for transforming Barajamda CHC:

To facilitate the demand of supporting 30 oxygen beds with in-house oxygen generation, we intend to set-up a 500 LPM Oxygen Generator PSA Plant to ensure self-reliance. Additionally, the complete list of equipment required is below.
